jeaniblog: EMBLEMS, not eblems please, Mods ( 5 years and 3013 days ago )
snappler: You could have really mixed things up with state and provincial symbols. ( 5 years and 3013 days ago )
Contest Moderator: Please note....the Mods do NOT put up the contests or type the contest titles.... ( 5 years and 3012 days ago )
jawshoewhah: Only one man is really running the site, Jean.

Well this sucks. If I give away my location when I enter, my anonymity is shot. Nobody else is in Utah on this site. But feel free to surprise me. ( 5 years and 3012 days ago )
robvdn: @jawshoewhah: and now for sure... that wasn't smart ( 5 years and 3012 days ago )
whimsicalb: no state capital? What if it is the inside that shows the emblems? ( 5 years and 3012 days ago )
kyricom: Some people seem to be confusing "emblems" with "symbols" ( 5 years and 3011 days ago )
jawshoewhah: This contest doesn't really appeal to me anyways, Rob. What's one less "seagull" (Utah's state bird). photo. ( 5 years and 3011 days ago )
jeaniblog: I wish people would use the given link ( 5 years and 3010 days ago )

adeincyprus: there are a lot of entries here which do not fit the theme.......... the contests is about national or state symbols......... we should not be confusing this with tourist tat!............ ie, the leaning tower of pisa is NOT a national emblem, but you can buy dozens of models of it when on holiday there............ the same as the statue of liberty is not a national emblem, but you can buy replicas of it all over the usa...... so many entries here off theme. ( 5 years and 3007 days ago )
Contest Moderator: Please take in consideration that there's a different between a symbol and an emblem! Emblems are official choosen items like trees, animals and so on. Look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_emblem ( 5 years and 3006 days ago )
jawshoewhah: Great, so half these entries might be off theme because they're not emblems but symbols? Ah Hell with it!!! I'm jsut going back what I usually rate photos on:

originality
portrayal
DOF
focus
WOW factor

I'll worry about it being an emblem later... ( 5 years and 3004 days ago )

In the Celtic tradition Hawk empowers a person to seek out their ancestral roots and to examine in depth that which is positive so that it may be integrated into the person's life and that, which is limiting so it can be released. Tradition is only worth honoring when it supports joy and fulfillment in one's life! In this tradition Hawk also supports the solar side as stated above, helping a person to move forward in life and to seek out great quests to embark upon.

In the Egyptian Tradition Hawk was associated with Magic and shape shifting. Isis is said to have shape shifted into a Hawk to save Osiris. Horus also carried Hawk medicine which allowed him to see the "unseeable".

Among Native American traditions, Hawk served the role of Mercury, bringer of messages and portents of change. Hawk reminded the people they needed to be awake and aware.
