Black and white did this photo no favors. It is very hard to make out what the focal point was intended to be due to the mishmash of multiple values without color to help differentiate the shapes.

I've never had pearl couscous. Does it taste the same as regular couscous? I bet it was delicious, but for a photo the plate could use a bit more color
