Source image plus my own photo of the waterfall.
Photoshop Elements 6 - used layers to add in the girl, some of the incoming wave and made some level adjustments. Added layers to create shadow, colour matching and blending. (5 years and 2511 days ago)

avatar rusvelt2000

Light comes from above, so I suppose that the girl's shadow should be less darker, and maybe not above her head! Just a suggestion and my opinion. Good luck author!

author says:

I appreciate the suggestions/tips. Thank you.

avatar MossyB
MossyB says:

The girl is too desaturated for the background, and the drop shadow behind her really makes her look artificially inserted into the image. It does not blend well as a cohesive composition.

author says:

I was trying to match the shadowing to the level of harshness on the rocks, but I see your point and thank you for the critique.

Searching for the words "umbrella girl" I came with unexpected picts that gave me this idea, hope you like it!

The umbrella has wrong lights, if the main source comes from the left, there can't be frontal lights from the right.

author says:

If you take a look to the source pic of the girl, she has the light from the left, so the umbrella has right lights!

(5 years and 2512 days ago)

avatar Akassa
Akassa says:

No she doesn't lol

Source 1, umbrella: The light comes from left, shadows on right. On your picture you have the umbrella like that and the girl you replace has totally opposite lights! To keep the umbrella's lights you had to change the girl's light to match it or vice-versa.
Also the man on the background, the light is from left to right.

author says:

Akassa, thank you very much for your advice, but I don't understand what you mean! please bear in mind that there are different umbrellas (the one of the man and the one of the girl), a dress made of a skirt and an arm which are from different sources, so I don't know which one is wrong! omg! I am going crazy!!

Layer masking and color/tonal matching. The layer mask function very useful for blending. Adjustments made to levels, curves, shadow/highlight and hue/saturation. (5 years and 2514 days ago)

Incredibly well made, I like the way you adapted the tones to the new image, also the splashes make it feel real. P.S.: I can see a vertical line at the end of the pier, maybe is some mask residue, or it's just my imagination. Good luck author!

author says:

Thanks, for the compliment and comment. I am not sure what you are seeing though.

(5 years and 2513 days ago)

avatar Drivenslush

I FOUND THE VERTICAL LINE!!! It's in the water right at the end of the pier, and I had to use my super duper magnifier on my computer to find it LOL (It really isn't noticeable, but boy did my curiosity get peeked (Note to self, in my second life come back with rusvelt2000's eyes )

Super well blended, great find with that matching sunlight on the girl

author says:

Slush Pupper, you have been pressing the F11 key and scrolling forward with the mouse wheel while holding the CTRL button(pc) again. Thank you for noticing.

(5 years and 2513 days ago)

So it wasn't my imagination! Drivenslush, I suggest you to come back with someone else's eyes, I'm shortsighted and a little astigmatic!!! Take care!

A concern on modern times, where business and personal interests steer us far away from helping and supporting necessitous people.

On regard to the entry, criticism on my entry is appreciated, it's always time to learn from others' suggestions!

An image including all the sources I used is within the SBS, in order to shorten the time to check them! (5 years and 2519 days ago)

avatar lincemiope

for me. the beautiful goddess and is well made. a nice contrast. I also do not like the girl on her knees, just my opinion

author says:

Thanx Nator and lincemiope for your opinions. Unfortunately the kneeling kid had been the main concept of my creation, so everything turns around her (also all the masks and the light effects I used to create the atmosphere), I have no time to change the whole image again, but I admit that the kid fills too much space in the image, and decreases the sensation of movement of the people; but, on the other hand, I considered the importance of the glance between the characters, which is the title of the picture.

Congrats!!

I think the image is very well done and the SBS is really good but the source use is so minimal it has no impact on the end result. I feel the Mixed Media contest would have been more appropriate for this piece IMHO.

author says:

You're right and I thought the same as soon as I ended working on it. But I already had misfortune in this "mixed media 29", one of my entry has been removed for a fatal mistake I made, that's why I choose another contest..... thanx for you honest opinion
