Contest goal:

Use the popularized -Grunge- style and come up with an interesting and *original* design in this genre. The subject matter is your choice, but make it as "Grungey" as possible, the kind of thing a teenage punk star might enoy. Brushes are useful for this genre, but originality is key for this contest.

arkncheeze: Depends upon the view of the viewer I guess... Grunge is basically about make stuff dirty as possible... And Goth are east germanic tribes opps wrong topic :P... Well goth is really a punk culture where the person dresses usually in black.... Even in music, grunge music has an distortion feel( kinda like dirt) and goth seems to have a bleak atmosphere( not in all cases)... For me I think grrunge and goth are different... I have thought that for this constest any image could be turned into a grunge style. But I didn't think this should be enough, so I decided to actually create some sort of a creature, something original and then make it look totally grunge.
So....I reconstructed over the woman sculpture using selections from a wooden circlet and ball. I used warp tool to get the shapes I wanted.
I created the backround by adding a lot of grunge sources.
Added wings, shadows, some gradient adjustment layers and corrected some spots by using the clone stamp tool.

I see the grunge style as being too dark and as an art style that expresses many oppressive feelings...Thought at many of these feelings and the one that made me reflect a lot was the danger of not loving yourself the way you are. In those kind of moments you try to find out how you can get out of yourself and become someone else..for me, this is a very grungey feeling...Well, Enjoy!

I got this idea whilst sleeping...on the last minute...!
And I was lucky enough to find an extraordinary picture of an owl on flickr.com. Credits to "Suneko" for an amazing photo and mood. You can check out author's account at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/suneko/.

Then I added more grunge looking textures on top, most of them having blending mode overlay.
