erathion, thanks for your comment i used a motion blur filter on the spacecraft to try and convey movement/speed. Also the spacecraft is not supposed to be the main focus, i wanted/needed the starfish to be the point of interest as that is what i had to photoshop and the craft is used to bulk out the scene. Hope this makes scense, i can make it sharp, but feel this would detract from overall image. Thank you erathion, i do appreciate you taking the time to comment. Reply »

An interesting image with a lot of imagination, but i don't really agree with your choice of how you transformed the starfish itself. The source lost a lot of depth, and in high res it looks over-warped. I'd suggest either shading the starfish with the dodge and burn tools to give it a bit more depth, or simply adding the source again, but this time without the flattening. Reply »

ponti55 i needed it to match the desert scene. I didn't want to go mad with the transform but if i hadn't someone would have commented that it didn't blend with the background enough......and you have commented on the opposite thanks for your input.. Reply »

Well then i might suggest simply changing the background. In my opinion it would improve the image dramatically if the source didn't look so 2-dimensional. Reply »

Nice chop! And kudos to using your own stock photos! My only nitpick would be maybe the edges around the starfish you turned into a bra. They just seem a little hard. Other than that, well done! Reply »

Make a blue overlay over the model, so it blends better. ( create new layer of solid color - blue- right click on it create clipping mask so it only affects the model, Mode: Overlay Opacity-20%- more or less) You could make 2 clipping layers one blue on green so that you have a turquaz overlaying your model.
Your background also has some noise that should be present on the model, so you could either lower her opacity -95-98% or add a noise over.
There's also a masking problem on her hip, use some clone stamp to cover over her human skin :P Reply »

Water is always hard to work with...This image have a great concept author and u could turn it in fabulous entry...I would like to give u few advices because i had similar problems when i created my underwater entry's...For better blending,solid color layers with different blend modes are always good thing to do. Val gave u advice to use blue overlay layer,and that is good thing to do. I would gave u advice to use dark blue overlay layer,with opacity set between 20-40%. Also in this case u have to make whole scene a bit slighter and for that dark brown layer with color blend mode and goldish layer also in color mode will done the work. Play with opacity of course. And now magic stars,add on top of these layers,dark green soft light layer,play with opacity and u will get crazy blue-green water color,and goldish layer will gave some nice mood.And finally u could add on top of these,blue/gray layer,blend mode set to color,with a low opacity max10%. And thats it,great underwater scene. And u could create some bubbles behind the purple thing to achieve better depth...Sorry for this novel author... Reply »

Nice result. Appreciate your imagination. I liked the bubbles and Jellies. I as a designer has met with the same staring and blindness problem. The solution what I found good is; Get away from PC, Do somthing else for sometime, Give a gap. Color perception get wavered as you keep stairing at the image for long. You end up giving lesser color than needed. Keep going..GL Reply »

Cool concept. The 3 o'clock earth starfish is maybe a bit too close; a little more distance might be more dramatic/threatening/tell more of a story. The outer edges of the 12 o'clock starfish's arms seem weak because (as revealed in hi-res) the water line bulges instead of remaining flat to the earth's surface.

The moon is hard to discern plus the closer starfish isn't casting any shadow. I think just deleting that closer starfish would be a simplifying improvement. Reply »

A good idea, despite a similar image already being in the contest. I agree with Dan about the uppermost starfish being above the waterline even though it has been clearly warped. Other than that it looks good Good attention to lights and shadows too. Reply »

For the comments about the upper starfish, it is as I want it to be. Yes it has been warped. I am trying to portray the creature as if it is wrapping its upper most arm UP and over the atmosphere and curvature of the Earth. If you notice the other arms are digging into the surface. Ponti and Dan I am not sure what you 2 are getting at. As for having been done as a similar idea...well I started this project as you see it with out seeing the other similar entry. This is a pretty cool concept, name and execution, author. Quite the mutated starfish, very scifi!

That one center leg on the bottom starfish looks as if it's really burrowing below the water surface - great work! Dust and fire on the others works, too. Planet looks like a NASA image, nice job on that as well. Reply »
