Typography - Photoshop Contest [30 entries]
Home » Photoshop Contests » Typography
Take one sentence that means something to you and depict it by using only typography. Your sentence can be a quote, for instance, a line from the lyrics of a song or your life motto.
You are allowed to use multiple colours and fonts, but nothing more.
No images, nothing as decoration and no textures; in other words no outside sources are allowed.
You can draw them, warp or distort letters in any way you want. Let the words and their shapes speak!
Some examples:
Example 1
Example 2
Example 3
A step by step is mandatory in this contest.

DanLundberg: Very intriguing concept. I assume the examples are illustrations of how type can be displayed and are not meant to suggest that an entry which is not a SINGLE sentence (minimally a [potentially implied] subject and a verb with punctuation) would be acceptable in this contest. Contest Moderator: Dan: the examples are indeed examples of typography are, they do not represent a sentence or quote.

Booshie5ives: so just to be 100% clear "No images, nothing as decoration and no textures; in other words no outside sources are allowed." correct? what happens if entries have outside images/sources. and decorative shapes? Do they get removed? sry for the noob question im new here (1 year and 215 days ago)
Missy: Please MOD can you clarify "No outside sources" Does this mean REFERENCE images too? (1 year and 215 days ago)
Contest Moderator: Any entry with decorative shapes or outside images will be removed.
References can be used HOWEVER, please read the guidelines about references. http://www.pxleyes.com/guidelines/
From the guidelines: A reference may be used to look and study how an object / animal / person and so on is constructed. To study the proportions, the materials (f.i. hair, cloth), to see how materials behave (f.i. how water flows and shines). In short, you may use a reference to look and study.
You may not include a reference in any way in your entry as being a part of that entry (visible or not visible in the final entry). You can not use a reference to set certain features / elements like f.i. eyes, ears, nose and so on in your drawing, neither can you use a reference to trace the whole or a part of the original reference.
You are allowed to use non-copyrighted photos. (1 year and 215 days ago)

CMYK46: From the contest guidelines: "TAKE ONE SENTENCE"...if strictly applied, most entries would be off theme. So now what? (1 year and 214 days ago)
CMYK46: What a cluster F this is now...how about changing the contest guideline to read TAKE A QUOTE instead of "Take one sentence"? (1 year and 214 days ago)
CMYK46: As of right now there are 20 entries in this contest. 9 would be removed if they were confined to using one sentence. Gimme a break. (1 year and 214 days ago)
jamespaul: filterz restricted too??? (1 year and 214 days ago)
jamespaul: i mean wat r d criterion for other graphical prgms like gimp illustrations etc ?? (1 year and 214 days ago)
Contest Moderator: OK... this has been one hell of a contest to mod... after much discussion with the boss and other mods, it has been decided that self made decorations are ok. It can be a quote, lyric or sentence, if it is not obvious please write it in your description (1 year and 213 days ago)
Nator: Your sentence can be a quote, for instance, a LINE from the lyrics of a song or your life motto...doesn't seem that difficult...for some... (1 year and 213 days ago)
donarkz: I have problem with this contest.. it says no outside source and actually some of the entries are using image source though they did not put it there. some uses shapes. my problem is that why is it that there are still entries who violate the rule but still there while my designs that has shapes got removed. let be fair please... i always get thumbs down but for what i see. if your going to be strick theres too many entries who violates rule.., (1 year and 213 days ago)
Nator: donarkz has a point... (1 year and 213 days ago)
pingenvy: I agree it's a very nice image, but the description says, "No images, nothing as decoration and no textures; in other words no outside sources are allowed.
You can draw them, warp or distort letters in any way you want. Let the words and their shapes speak!"

pingenvy: Disregard previous comment. It was for a specific entry, but at this point I think I'll withdraw all comments & skip this one. Its too confusing for me too cross reference the rules.

Keiley22: have to agree... now that the rules have changed its time to go back and remove all my comments as well.... may as well make it ease for those ones that didn't read properly in the first place... Are all those other entries going to come back into the contest that were removed... there were some good ones deleted that personally I would have given a good score to had the rules been changed earlier and no red flags given
