Here, that's cause for a lawsuit. An engagement ring is a form of "contract," and if she breaks it off, she's required by law to return it - intact...

The entry may not be from the U.S., MossyB. And even here, while what you say is generally true, it depends on what state you're in.
Some things are simply not mean to be. Actually years later after she was married, a final request form me was followed by it's return. It had a chip in it. not a lucky stone.
