I created this scene in 3DS Max with some help of Photo Shop.

Ice planets are mostly made of solid ice, or freezing water with ice chunks or frozen land masses floating in the freezing water.

These planets are not very suitable for human life because of the freezing temperatures.

However they are great places for secret outposts or military bases.

After winning their second war against the Narn, a lone starfighter returns through a wormhole to Centauri Prime.
(Actually I didn't really like Babylon 5, but thought the ship would lend itself to a good image) All the individual parts were rendered and then composited in Photoshop with some overpainting. I wanted to create more of a Matte painting effect rather than a straight forward render.
Software used:

Vue R10 Xstream
Photoshop CS5
3DS Max 2012.

Very nice concept and a great composition. Its hard to talk about realism in a contest like this but i think your loosing it with the blue background. I relate a blue sky to earth or an atmosphere of some sort. Space is black, and even when a nebula or galaxy is in a photo their light does not effect the rest of the photo or image. In my opinion you should tone down or rethink the blue. By the way your renders in the step by step look amazing, they remind me of the desert scenes in Star Wars.
