This is primarily photoshop with one outside source. I used smart sharpen on the mask image and worked to marry photos with illustration. Even the background is from the contest source. Combination of noise and texture filters with gaussian blurs created the textures. (5 years and 3557 days ago)

one thing if I may suggest is to make the ash look a little lit up although it does look like it's just chillen there like he's some cool cat :P so I don't really know was just a thought wonderful job author
Any flaws?.. not really, this is not only fun, but very clean too - maybe some hair strains need a bit of blur to bend in with the rest, but maybe not, to make the image more different. So - no real suggestion from me, because the image is GREAT!!! Good luck, author

I haven't seen this one the first time....but....it is an awesome job indeed! It can very well work as a game or cartoon concept! I only wish you were more explicit in the SBS, so that we could all learn how to get to do such a great image! I would personally be interested in an official tutorial, as I would like to learn how to give some of my images such a great glow and such perfect shadows and highlights! Best of luck!

Thanks to all for the comments and congrats. Sigi said I should credit vicspa. The clown with a puppet has been done many times by many artists. In the old PST vicspa made one and so did hyperorbit. It's a fun concept and it's different every time. Truth be told vicspa has been my friend and colleague for more than 15 years. He introduced me to this site and has taught me much about photoshop, I owe him a great deal.
