Nickk: Sorry guys don't know what just happened .. My internet is spacing?
Anyway :

"or in the sky" does that mean it doesn't have to be a sea monster ( as the title says) ( 5 years and 3075 days ago )
MossyB: My original suggestion was for a Sea Serpent or Dragon. Admin has made it a "sea monster," but some of those can fly, too!

I think you just need to include some sea water in the image to be on-topic... ( 5 years and 3075 days ago )
MossyB: If you're somewhat stumped on what direction to take, here is a link to a site that talks about various sea monsters through the ages:

DanLundberg: Thanks for the insight, MossyB. But I'm still curious as to what the admins consider prohibited "pre-made creations" to be. Would using a pic of a lizard from my backyard as the starting chopping point for my "great lizard" entry be ruled as 'pre-made'? ( 5 years and 3075 days ago )
Contest Moderator: Pre-made images are illustrations or chopped creations of monsters done by another author and as always are not allowed. A picture of a lizard, reptile, amphibian or any other source you want to use is fine to create your sea monster. Usual rules still apply. ( 5 years and 3073 days ago )
greymval: create your best "great lizard"
I see that's optional, since octopussies are not lizards. ( 5 years and 3072 days ago )
Contest Moderator: Any entry submitted after 2000hrs GMT Friday 10th June will be removed ( 5 years and 3067 days ago )

I had something little different on my mind for this, but since there is no more time for enhancements ......well everything is just blending those parts and splashes are drawn with simple round brush, on separate layer with spacing(95%) , scatter(260%), and then just bevel/emboss on that layer.
