I don't see anything that connotes "evil." The face is passive, the background is uneventful, and there's too much white on his right ear. He looks more like a leperous house painter than "evil..."

Well, if you are asking if I used any black layers. Then no, I used two layers of red. The background was changed to black and white.

your main source image can't be used off of dA. i'd change the model stock before your whole idea gets pulled.
edit: better. Now you could work on cleaning up the edges a bit.

Its really nice image manipulation as per my view.

Few things I would like to suggest:

1. Figures of girl is cutting and pillar make it bit bright.
2. Pillar have some white color at bottom remove that.
3. As "CMYK46 says" - remove blue color.

Has a great feel to it ... unfortunately as Adhir said there is some white on the pillar where her hand is that takes away from the red effect. I also find the white glow around her is a bit distracting but that could be just me?
