I like your interpretation of the character here. And your water effects are great. Sad thought the lonely guy just wants a friend only to be tricked by cruel creations of humanity. Suppose I'm reading a bit deep but, that is what art does.

I wanted to give some descriptions about the story but finally I chose to leave it blank for everybody to interpret by their own way, and what you read out is absolutely right. Grindylow is a kind of monster which likes children, and parents tell their kids about Grindylow to keep them stay away from the dangerous water. Grindylow has the soul of a child and innocent, it wants to play with kids but its stupidity just kill them. That's the tragic story when we can't understand each others or can't find a solution for living in harmony. Thank you Jade, also spaceranger, you made my day ^^ Reply »

it really is no different than using 3d render stocks or .png files that are up as unrestricted sources.

That's not surprised to me, author, because I also realized that your style is unique and stable through all of your entries. Your ideas behind the entries easily impress people and your execution is clever. As far as this entry is concerned, you achieved your goal for sure. Even though this contest will be full of mermaids, maybe I won't see any spooky mermaid like that again because that's too difficult to compete with you . I just have a suggestion of increasing the brightness of the whole scene for people to appreciate more what you've done. Best of luck to you

And, technically, she's not a mermaid but a siren...however, I did seem to make my own version of what I see them as. I remember well homers "oddesey" and this is what I always pictured the sirens...perhaps when they surface they turn beautiful just to help them lure the sailors to their ocean graves. Reply »

I did go back and play with some lighting on this, brightened the image quite a bit, and made her face much more visable. Thanks for the suggestions, and hope this pleases your eyes as much as it did mine in the finished stage.

Nice entry. Here are my tips:
1.The creature should have a blue-ish overlay in order to look like it's in water, i would even lower the opacity to 90-95.
2. the lower part of the mouth doesn't look 3d (perspective is off). try to add the other layer of teeth behind and something like a tongue between them.
3. The are 2 types of bubbles : soap ones & water ones. You need the second type that looks like this:

You see,they are not round, cause water is heavy and makes them squashed. I think you can fix this from jitter. Reply »
