IMO, it doesn't seem that the defocus works here. It just appears to be a shot that could have been better in focus.
hm... it is a flower that is dead and the petals fell leaving this. i thought it gave a "wistful" look to it. you are right though - the ones in focus do look better! thank you for commenting! it really does help me!
