Round And Round 2 - Photography Contest [67 entries]

Eyes Picture

Winning entry, with a score of:
70.5%
Contest goal:

The circle has been known since before the beginning of recorded history. It is the basis of the wheel which, with related inventions such as gears, makes much of modern civilization possible. In mathematics, the study of the circle has helped inspire the development of geometry and calculus.

Your goal in this contest is to creatively capture one or more circular shapes and/or circles. They are all around us, one example would be your camera lens. Please make sure that the circle is the major focal point of the picture, not one that we have to look for. Also make sure it's a complete 360 degree circle. Good luck everyone!

Status: finished. Check out the winners below!

Heathcliffe: Is it ok for the circle to be captured from an angle which makes it appear as not a true circle in the pic (eg not actually taking a photo of a camera lens perfectly straight on, thus giving it an oval-ish shape etc) ? ( 5 years and 2696 days ago )
MossyB: If it's "oval-ish" then it's not a circle or a circular shape...I think a better question would be can we photograph non-circles from an angle to make them appear circular? ( 5 years and 2696 days ago )
Heathcliffe: Well yep. I think there was recently a circles contest and I think it said something like you don't have to photograph the thing perfectly straight on, ie knowing it was a circle was enough. So this contest needs the actual image to be geometrically correct as a perfect circle ( 5 years and 2696 days ago )
Contest Moderator: For this contest we will need to see something that is actually round. ( 5 years and 2694 days ago )
MossyB: Another question, why are spheres allowed in this contest?
A sphere is NOT a circle. A circle is a shape on a flat plane, with the points all equidistant from the center. A sphere is not a flat plane, it is a 3 dimensional plane. They are NOT the same thing, and spheres should be off-topic for this contest, IMO. ( 5 years and 2694 days ago )
Heathcliffe: I'm still a bit confused as there are entries which I understand should be off topic, being circles captured from an angle. ( 5 years and 2694 days ago )
Contest Moderator: A sphere will be accepted as it is round and represents a circle. Angles looking like a circle will be off theme. The objects have to be round and focus of the shot. ( 5 years and 2694 days ago )
Contest Moderator: Any entry submitted after 2000hrs GMT Friday 18th November will be removed. ( 5 years and 2689 days ago )
