Contest goal:

In vision, lines that are parallel to each other give the sensation of meeting at vanishing points. When parallel lines, either horizontal or vertical, are perpendicular to the lens' axis, the vanishing points are assumed to be at infinity. Take your most creative shot of a vanishing point. Here is one example of the most commonly photographed vanishing point.

Christy: Great contest idea!!! ( 5 years and 3074 days ago )
MnMCarta: I agree!!! Really gets me thinking ( 5 years and 3074 days ago )
adeincyprus: haven't we had this one recently? ( 5 years and 3073 days ago )
jeaniblog: Not recently.. ( 5 years and 3073 days ago )
Ory: It might just be me but it seems that so far about 70% of these entries are not really meeting the theme requirements. ( 5 years and 3073 days ago )
EmiK: Thanks Christy and MnMCarta, glad you like this theme. And we haven't had this contest before, I checked, at least not titled - vanishing point. And yes there are a few pic. in my opinion that are not on theme. ( 5 years and 3072 days ago )
jeaniblog: Must the lines be straight or can they bend, Mods? ( 5 years and 3071 days ago )
locksmagic: I'm with Ory on this one, the majority of these entries have no vanishing point! ( 5 years and 3071 days ago )
jawshoewhah: I think some of you are confused as to what a vanishing point is. ( 5 years and 3071 days ago )
jawshoewhah: Ade, we had a contest similar to this: pinpoint and it's basically the same thing. As far as people not figuring out what a vanishing point is, look at the entries with high stats. ALL of them are perfect examples of the theme and should be a guide to those who I might have mentioned that they have no point. ( 5 years and 3071 days ago )
craigers: i agree with J., lot of entries not point.
P.S. Where can u find out what themes have been done before? would help in suggesting! ( 5 years and 3071 days ago )
jawshoewhah: You can look as past contests. Some of us have been here awhile and so we can generally remember. Honestly, who cares if it's been done? It just gives us all chance to redeem ourselves if we didn't do all that well in the last one. ( 5 years and 3070 days ago )
EmiK: Can someone give us a link to the last contest like this, I can't find it. ( 5 years and 3070 days ago )
Contest Moderator: Could members please READ the contest theme before posting their entries. There have been lots of off-theme entries, and we don't really want to remove them, but we have too. Please try keep your entries on theme. Thank you. ( 5 years and 3070 days ago )
WYSIWYG: In architecture the vanishing point is the point to which all parallel lines lead, this point is not always visible as an actual point.
If you look at it this way most entries which show lines going to a certain point (even not visible) are on theme.
Question here is should the vanishing point be visible in the image? Is that what the contest rules say?
( 5 years and 3070 days ago )
Contest Moderator: In this contest the parallel lines have to appear to converge into infinity. As in the example image. That means there should be no object at the end of the lines. Any image that has an object at the end of the lines is off theme. The lines MUST disappear to nothing. Hence Vanishing point. I hope this clears it up a little more. ( 5 years and 3070 days ago )
jeaniblog: Fed up with this one, I've had two entries removed yet there are worse ones still left in...grrrr! ( 5 years and 3070 days ago )
jbillitteri: I agree jeaniblog. I count 9 that are way more less vanishing point then mine was. Two of which doesn't even come close to a point at all. ( 5 years and 3070 days ago )
jawshoewhah: It seems like they're all on theme now. But honestly as much confusion there was in this contest, IMO, anyone who had an entry removed should allowed to redeem themselves. Let them re-enter. ( 5 years and 3070 days ago )
craigers: good call Jawshoewhah. ( 5 years and 3069 days ago )
jawshoewhah: and it's seems my suggestion was taken into effect. So FYI, if you have your entry removed, it seems that we're allowed to re-enter. I say take advantage of it. ( 5 years and 3069 days ago )
jeaniblog: It says you can enter two more until you click on it! ( 5 years and 3068 days ago )
rad54: I love pics with vanishing point.... Photos with depth.. Great competition... ( 5 years and 3067 days ago )
