Dark Skies - Photography Contest [77 entries]
Contest goal:
For this contest, your goal is to show us some dark skies. No rain or snow allowed in the picture. UncleJimmy: according to the dictionary, "ground" is defined as 1. the surface of the earth, 2. the bottom of a body of water, 3. a special type of soil....ect... Hence, my fellow artists and photographers, structures (homes and biuldings) or the tops of trees, or partial statures or any other man-made object quallifies as showing the ground by definition...as long as it's NOT dirt, soil or mountains it's not ground. friiskiwi: I can see this is going to be an other competition where we will have lots of arguments. Suggesting a theme isn't easy, but I do wish they had somebody who would read through the suggestions, and think how they could be clarified, and less open to misunderstandings. UncleJimmy: look...I'm not trying to skirt anything...if they want only sky then the guidelines should clearly state ONLY SKY...if things were made more clear and defined correctly from the beginning in the guidelines this type of thing would not happen. ( 5 years and 3348 days ago )

( 5 years and 3348 days ago ) wiseman: its not skirting a contest is the limitations of how people put there creativity on the theme, many times having something besides just clouds enhances the clouds, as long as dark clouds are visible and noticeable then there isnt a problem ( 5 years and 3347 days ago )

kyricom: Whether or not there are better pictures with things besides clouds is irrelevent. Using that logic you could enter a nice picture of a rose with any sky over it and say it was on theme. I may be wrong, but I suspect that there are times these theme descriptions don't match the title because of second language issues, but it can be frustrating. I agree 100% with Friiskiwi's suggestion about someone going over the themes for consistency. I might be able to do that if anyone were interested, I suppose. ( 5 years and 3347 days ago )

kyricom: The "person suggesting it" may not have phrased it this way. As someone who suggests themes, I can tell you that what ends up here for us is rarely what I have originally turned in, either grammatically or philosophically. I'm sure their intent is honorable, but the end result is different. I think our suggestions are just that - "suggestions" for the mods to write a theme. ( 5 years and 3346 days ago )

Contest Moderator: Understand people the mods do not write the final descriptions of weekly contests. As far as this contest goes there is nothing in the description that eliminates buildings or trees the only suggestion is that the ground is not showing ( 5 years and 3344 days ago )
outbackjack: I don't understand how come there is so many shots with the ground clearly visible. It is frustrating when you try to follow the rules and so many don't. It does not make for an even field. Why is the mod not removing these shots???? ( 5 years and 3341 days ago )
