The knife being too prominent grabs all the front-end attention? It forms a "visual barrier" to the real subject matters at the back. Normally knives, forks, spoons function as perspective guides leading the eye towards the center of attraction?
Perhaps to tighten the composition you have little place else to put the knife on a small table?.... which also appears slanting.
But I am sure you had a great roast lamb dinner with a suitably dry red?
