Really nice macro, but I'm not sure I understand the relationship between the penny and the circuit

Yes, the copper. The penny is there for scale and to show how it's also used to "count itself'. I forgot to mention, it is actually part of the inside circuity of an adding machine...

Picture is really good.. My view is that the author could have tried something else which is easily recognized by laymen like me.. Sorry if my comments hurts...
I agree with Abroono. Although the description helps, it doesn't really seem to show math being done.
