Astro Hdr - Photography Contest [5 entries]

Moon Shot Picture

Winning entry, with a score of:
67.5%
Contest goal:

Break out those cameras and head off to the boonies. Take pictures of the moon or stars but there's a catch (there's always a catch). It has to be HDR! Three shots minimum and they have to be included in an sbs. Here's a good tutorial for those who may be confused. Other objects are allowed in the shot but the main focus MUST be the stars or moon.

Required level: 15+ or higher.
Status: finished. Check out the winners below!

TankRed: This seems like a contest of who has better equipment rather than photographic creativity or skill. But it'll be intresting at the photos for those who can actually take these shots :p. ( 5 years and 2824 days ago )
TankRed: *too look at* ( 5 years and 2824 days ago )
UncleJimmy: TankRed, it really does not require any specialized equipment to take these shots...many of the "milky way" galaxy shots were done with regular lenses. Most photogs have some sort of zoom or telephoto lens at their disposal for moon shots and such...you do not need a telescope or other special equipment to capture such shots. MnMCarta: Not to mention a program to put then together. ( 5 years and 2824 days ago )
UncleJimmy: MnMCarta...it's not star-stacking...it's HDR. You have Photoshop? There are many programs available to put together HDR's. ( 5 years and 2824 days ago )
karaflazz: Yeah right......

magicsteve: I don't see what the big deal is, either. This is a standard HDR contest (we've had plenty in the past) whose subject matter just happens to be outer space. You can compete in this contest even if all you have is a point-and-shoot (lots of them nowadays offer exposure control). As far as creativity goes, the universe is a pretty big and awesome place with lots of room for creative expression (especially since you can have other objects in the shot if you wish). I'd say that we all have a great chance of succeeding. Good luck to everyone! ( 5 years and 2823 days ago )
drskn08: not even a single post yet ???? ( 5 years and 2822 days ago )
MnMCarta: I only have PSE and I won't do HDR until I get that photomatix or whatever you call it program but when I do WATCHOUT PEEPS! lol ( 5 years and 2822 days ago )
locksmagic: Amanda, you could always do a manual HDR by blending the layers yourself, nothing says it has to be done in an automated program. ( 5 years and 2821 days ago )
locksmagic: Well hopefully we will get a clear night around here, so far no luck ( 5 years and 2821 days ago )
drskn08: I am keen to see the photographs so that i amy post some when i reach to higher level.. i love astrology ( 5 years and 2820 days ago )
k5683: I really don't want to say "RAIN RAIN GO AWAY" because we need it. ( 5 years and 2819 days ago )
Artifakts: Is it possible to change the contest goal to "Grey clouds & rain HDR" ? ( 5 years and 2819 days ago )
UncleJimmy: Guys...having the same difficulties here I'm sorry to report. Had a single clear night...did some shots, wasn't really happy with them, then...not a clear day since ( 5 years and 2819 days ago )
bf2015: There's a great free HDR program called Paicturenaut that has some nice features. It's not as complicated as Photomatix and is great if you're just getting started into HDR photog. The link is: http://www.hdrlabs.com/picturenaut/ ( 5 years and 2818 days ago )

So this is actually an HDR pano of the moon shot with a Canon 550D through a Meade LX90 8" telescope. It has a fixed F-stop of F10. The equivalent DSLR lense would be right around 2300mm. It was taken just before sunset.

The Sky Won't Fall Forever - created by k5683

"We walked the narrow path,
beneath the smoking skies.
Sometimes you can barely tell the difference
between darkness and light.
Do you have faith
in what we believe?
The truest test is when we cannot,
when we cannot see.

[SUNG:]
I hear pounding feet in the,
in the streets below, and the,
and the women crying and the,
and the children know that there,
that there's something wrong,
and it's hard to belive that love will prevail.

Oh it won't rain all the time.
The sky won't fall forever.
And though the night seems long,
your tears won't fall forever.

Oh, when I'm lonely,
I lie awake at night
and I wish you were here.
I miss you.
Can you tell me
is there something more to belive in?
Or is this all there is?

In the pounding feet, in the,
In the streets below, and the,
And the window breaks and,
And a woman falls, there's,
There's something wrong, it's,
It's so hard to belive that love will prevail.

Oh it won't rain all the time.
The sky won't fall forever.
And though the night seems long,
your tears won't fall, your tears won't fall, your tears won't fall
forever.

Last night I had a dream.
You came into my room,
you took me into your arms.
Whispering and kissing me,
and telling me to still belive.
But then the emptiness of a burning sea against which we see
our darkest of sadness.

Until I felt safe and warm.
I fell asleep in your arms.
When I awoke I cried again for you were gone.
Oh, can you hear me?

It won't rain all the time.
The sky won't fall forever.
And though the night seems long,
your tears won't fall forever.
It won't rain all the time
The sky won't fall forever.
And though the night seems long,
your tears won't fall, your tears won't fall,
your tears won't fall
forever." Jane Siberry (5 years and 2817 days ago)

I have debated whether or not to enter this shot, it doesn't have the typical wow factor that is generally needed on this site for an entry to score well on this site but I really like the subtlety of it. I chose to keep the statue in shadow for 2 reasons. First I wanted the focus to be the over exposed moon and flare and Second I wanted the viewer to have to stop and really look at this to see all there is.

I would appreciate hearing everyone's opinion, good or bad. (5 years and 2816 days ago)
