A Work in Progress: The Flying Dutch

step 1 of 13

1. made a black gradient
2. chopped the candle

3. added the texture and transformed it to make the table

4. added some shadow to the candle

5. chopped the ship,resized it and placed it were i wanted

6. did glowing edges filter, layer is set to screen mode

7. smoked the line with liquify filter

step 7 of 13

8. made a selection of the ship and painted the ship with smoke brushes.
each stroke was transformed to feet the boat lines on a separate layer, and then all layers merged.

8a. painted ship

10. added more smoke strokes with no selection. again each transformed on a separate layer.

11. added some smoke from the candle to the ship

12b. some more smoke to make the waves.

step 12 of 13

13. duplicated the ship layer and did motion blur, then gaussian blur and lowered the opacity.
14. transformed the waves smoke to look more wavy.

14. added b&w adjustment layer set to soft light to increase contrast.
15. added some color balance adjustment layers with mask to paint the candle and the smoke
