step 2 of 5

Windmill has been moved over the sunset sky. All of chopping is not yet complete, but is being done with a small, hard eraser. Smudge tool and cloning tool will be used to refine edges of the blades where chopping is the hardest.

step 3 of 5

Blades are chopped now, and some color changes have been made with color/balance tool and darkened with brightness/contrast tool.

Creation of Old Mill at Sunset: Step 3

step 4 of 5

The windmill is placed slightly to the left of the canvas. To balance the beautiful right side of the background, 3 birds are painted in with the brush tool. They are painted on the same layer as the mill so that the eraser tool can be used for shaping the edges.

step 5 of 5

Finally, birds are taken down in opacity using the eraser tool at a very low setting. Closest bird is left a little darker than the next, and that one a little darker than the one further away. Next, a red/brown filter is added at 15% opacity.
