I started chopping and masking the parts i needed. The key parts where the cupt teeth that helped me make the hands. In fact they gave me the idea for this entry in the first place.
Anyway, after masking and chopping parts of the picture i started assemble them, and made more parts with my progress. Usualy i make a brief sketch of what i want to make, but this time all worked out smoothly without one... Had this exact image in my head. The chair was made using the pen tool and a brownish colour. I didn't shaded the chair until i had the final version ( twisted the parts on all faces to get something ) and then used a black brush with low opacity ( i got this tip form PXLEYES.. :) so.. thank you if you read this.. you know who you are.. )
The circuit board background was applied in 3 stages.. One for the wall.. transformed in perspective mode.. one for the chair in soft light mode, and one for the floor.

step 2 of 3

the man was a basic riff raff with my tablet, and i didn't want to make him to obvious, because the main character is the ancient.
On top of that, i was working late and wanted to see this piece done.. If you look closelly you can find a ton of things to do.. so you might never end..
A thing i mostly doo to avoid bordem when working is that when i get tired of doing something.. or that thing doesn't goes how i like.. i move to some other part of the picture

Creation of The Ancient: Step 2

step 3 of 3

the lighting was done using the gradient tool, render clouds from filters, amping the shadows in levels, then applied a hue/saturation filter that gaved the colour.
The scepter was done using the pen tool. I was stuck and didn't had any good idea for a scepter design so i decided to go with the pen tool and make polygon. Maded purple.. duplicated 3 times, then lowered the opacity to the middle one, applied an outer glow to the one bellow ( scaled it down previously ) and scaled the third one up, and applied a bevel.
I wanted to make this piece entirely from the source image, so i didn't wanted to use an outside source for the scepter.. If i get an idea or you suggest something, i'll moddify it so it looks more fancy.

The heart was done in a similar way, made a circle, filled it with red, applied a gradinte,, smaller white circle then, outer glow.
After this i painted some wisps so it looked connected with the body and aded them some highlights.
