I cut out another piece of the snake for the neck here and added it to the party.

In this screenshot, I painted out the eyes in black.

I painted in the eyes and cleaned up some edges. I also moved the right hump down and rotated to fit.

I painted in the back part of the land on the left and decreased opacity,

I added more landmass to both sides playing with fog, opacity, and guassian blur.

Painted in the seaweed in our friend's mouth.

In this final step, I did more work on the shadows, added some highlites to the seaweed, and more fog and shadows. I could have kept working on this but will wait for your awesome critiques to se what I missed. OH..I also desaturated a bit to better match the background source.
