A Work in Progress: Butterflies

This guide was made for entry:

metal beams

step 1 of 5

I used the spherize filter on the beams and transformed the image to match the background size.

Creation of Butterflies: Step 1

step 2 of 5

Then I used the polar coordinates filter (polar to rectangular ) to generate the reeds, actually it was a happy mistake :-)))

Creation of Butterflies: Step 2

step 3 of 5

In this step I changed the blending options to linear light, with an opacity of 51%. I choosed a green to transparent gradient to colorize the reed. The gradients are on a separate layer, between the background and the reed.

Creation of Butterflies: Step 3

step 4 of 5

In this step I separated the blue parts from my distorted metal beams layer ( with color range selection) and copied them on a separate layer. I set the blending mode for this layer to multiply and masked some of the blue parts on top of the image.

Creation of Butterflies: Step 4

step 5 of 5

Then I copied the butterflies from the stock image to 2 separate layers and added drop shadows with the layer styles settings because they looked too flat. I used dodge and burn for the frame of my image and dragged a merged version of my image to the new background. Then I added a drop shadow for my merged image.
