A Work in Progress: Clockwork

First of all I opened illustrator to make the gears... Could have made the gears in photoshop, but I found illustrator to be faster making the gears...

First of all I started out making a circle with a 20% grey color...

Now made a star shape...

Now selecting both shape and using the path finder to join the two shape...

Now making an another circle and intersecting it...

Making an another circle and intersecting the main shape...

Now using the 3D effect to give it a bevel look...

This way( and some minor variation), I made other gears and stuffs...

There are more, but I can't show them all in one page...

Now making the screws... Made a circle and filled it with a black white radial gradient...

Now adding an gradient overlay layer effect...

Now a adding a rectangular stripe filled with a dark grey...

Adding inner glow and gradient overlay...

This way made screw, cross screw and rivets...

Now making the dial... Took a selection of one of the dial and removed the other part of the image...

Now masking, copying, pasting, burning, cloning... I get this...

Now opened the face in the document...

Masking part of his face...

Now picking a mid tone color of his skin and making a border like thingy behind his face... Also burning and dodging it...

Now making a layer filled with green yellow and making the texture as pattern and using it as the pattern for the pattern overlay layer effect...

Also masking it, so it appears inside the face...

Now selecting some circular part of that layer... Copying pasting it... And adding bevel and emboss effect to it...

Now darkening it a bit with the hue/sat adj. layer...

Now adding the rivets and burning it...

Now adding a gear, giving overlay pattern and burning it a little...

Now adding a bolt, giving it again a overlay pattern and burning it...

Now selecting a circular part of the bolt, copying and pasting... Adding overlay pattern, bevel & emboss and burning it a bit...

Now adding the screw, giving it overlay pattern and burning it a bit...

Similarly adding a few more gears...

Now adding the metal casing, adding overlay pattern and burning it a little...

Again selecting circular part, copying & pasting, bevel, pattern overlay and burning a little...

Adding screw, overlay pattern and burning it a bit...

Now adding shadow and the first gear part is ready...

Now similarly I made the other gear part...

Now for the dial... Imported a round bevel( which I made in illustrator)... Overlay pattern and a little burn...

Adding the dial and making it a little dark...

Now added a wire outlet( imported yet again from illustrator), overlay pattern, smudging and burning...

Now with the pen tool drew a curvy line and stroked it with a 8 px red brush...

Now bevel and embossing it...

Adding 3 more red wires...

Now adding green and blue wire as well...

Adding shadow to the dial and wires...

Now with the pen tool made tool straight line, stroked it with a dark grey color... Beveling it, gradient overlay and pattern overlay... Burning and adding shadow...

Now adding shadow of the cutout falling on the gear parts...

Now adding the metal chimney to the head... Masking a little to get rid of unwanted part...

Now smudging and burning to make the intersection look neat...

Adding smoke , as if it's coming out of the chimney...

Now making the background... Filling a layer with dark red color and pattern overlaying it...

Now adding gears... Pattern overlaying, beveling it and darkening it... Also adding shadow...

Now making the clockwork face visible again and making a shadow for it...

Now darkening the background a bit...

Adding some smoke with the help of smoke brushes...

Level adjusting it again...

Lastly adding a photo filter of the color orange...
