Innovative Circlism Art and More by Ben Heine (with Interview)

Luckily, we had many talented traditional and digital artists entering “the door” of PxlEyes’ blog: photographers, painters, digital manipulators, mixed media artists, etc. But never before we had the great pleasure of presenting someone who is all that. So today we open our arms towards a huge talent and master of all the above mentioned types of art. His name is Ben Heine and he comes from Belgium. Surprisingly young, compared to the huge portfolio and achievements, Ben is here today to talk a little about himself and his creation in an exclusive interview. We will furthermore show 50 of his masterpieces and some of the most representative works that you can find on the www for that type of art: e.g. Circlism. Prepare to get amazed and release admiration! 🙂

Q: Hi Ben and welcome to PxlEYes community! Please introduce yourself.
A: I’m a 28 y/o Belgian visual artist. I was born and grew up in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. I lived there 7 years, along with my parents and my 3 sisters. My father was a commercial engineer and my mother is a Modern Jazz dance teacher. I’m currently living and working in Brussels, Belgium. I’ve started drawing when I was a child, I went on with traditional and digital painting when I was a teenager and I started photography a couple of years after. I never stopped producing graphic art. I have a degree in Journalism and I also briefly studied History of Art, Painting and Sculpture as well but I’m mainly a self-taught person in Drawing and Photography. I’ve launched a creative series in 2010 called “Pencil Vs Camera”, it’s somehow a new and powerful form of expression that mixes drawing and photography, imagination and reality. I’m also known for 2 other creative series started in 2010 and 2011: “Digital Circlism”and “Flesh and Acrylic”. My photos have been published in newspapers, magazines and websites all over the world and I started exhibiting limited edition prints (with Diasec finishing) of my creations in galleries and art fairs in different European countries since 2010. I’m not sure what I’m going to do next, I’m still searching and working hard everyday to do more innovative and powerful art, I’m in a constant evolution and development in my ongoing artistic projects, I’m never satisfied and I try to take fresh directions all of the time. Although my series may look very different, there is always a connection between the images.

Q: Are you a digital artist or a photographer? Your artwork reflects both. Which one attracts you more and why?
A: I see no specific distinction in graphic arts, for me, it’s the end result that matters most. I really like to mix different art forms, may it be photography, drawing, painting. This gives me a lot of freedom.
Martin “Martin”

Q: Do you have any ongoing projects?
A: Yes, I’m working on some new Pencil Vs Camera images. The series slowly comes to an end, but it’s not over yet. I also plan to do photo shootings with new models. Finally I’m about to start a series of images for an advertising agency in Romania.

Q: How did you come to realize such amazingly beautiful digital circlism pieces?
A: I decided to make portraits wirh circles because I love circles… This shape is pure and simple. I also love Pop Art and Pointillism, Digital Circlism is a fusion of these 2 art movements.

Q: Your creativity seems to be limitless. Do you have sources of inspiration or does it all come naturally to you?
A: It rather comes naturally and I try to take inspiration in my own life to make sure I do something that is special and unseen. I do have some creative blocks from time to time. When it happens, I just do something that doesn’t require creativity or too much brain efforts, for instance doing administrative tasks.

Q: A little piece of advice for the admirers who want to follow you, please.
A: First, thank you for following my work. Everything I’m doing, I’m doing it for you all. Then I have a wish more than a piece of advice: let’s live everyday as if it was the last one, we need more passion, more dreams, more love and more fantasy.
