And the practice of MEMENTO MORI, where back in the days of the first cameras (Photography was very expensive) families would take on the expense only when a loved one died and took a photo of them propped up as if still alive.. (even to resorting to painting open eyes over the eyelids of the photograph.)

Nice idea and good work, but there is light coming from the right. I think it would look better if you matched the light source

The poppies made me think of the war cemetries in Normandy.

Author, I saw something like that at Google (or Flickr, I can't remember clearly). They used to dress the deceased up and did the makeup... A bit wierd and maniac if it's nowadays!
I know Erica, when I read about it, it really gave me the creeps but I suppose they did painting of dead people as well, still pretty spookie
