Very ghostly! Reminds me of Wuthering Heights! Yowza.
Too long I roam in the night
I'm coming back to his side, to put it right
I'm coming home to wuthering, wuthering

Kate Bush was a big hero of mine when I was in school. Made the other kids look at me like I just ate a bug, but I still loved her. Especially if I'd sing Houdini. When you emote, "with your spit, still on my lip, you hit the water" it makes your fellow sophomores cringe in high school. LOL

Peculiar image, well done.. Might removing the box top make it look more Flat? Not necessary, but it looks like a box set on top of the book and not a pop up. The bottom edge is EXCELLENT!!! great thinking there.. good luck Its well done all round

Stunning technique author... I'm just having issues trying to figure out what the planet is.. it looks more like an inter-dimensional rift such as a wormhole (which fits the idea of this chop perfectly) or the porthole in Stargate.
Your use of Polar Coor is awesome as I always get stuck in the symmetry quandary and the work to make it line up drives me nuts...hehehe
It's your interpretation so I'm sure it's okay, I'm just offering up my opinion. (Excellent skill all round). I'm just thinking if a clear sphere or something might add to the piece (ONLY FOR THE CONTEST).
I always give a high vote for good work, and you have it in spades here
This version is fantastic.. I'm just thinking planet. An Oort Cloud around it would be cool as well. IMHO of course. I just love anything Sci Fi (super Geek) so this was a trip right from the start. Good luck author and great job.

author says:

Thank you very much. The worm hole effect is what I was after since it's a planet for book worms. Worms need a worm hole to crawl into, don't they?
To get the right symmetry for the polar coordinates, just duplicate your layer and flip it horizontally on a 50% opacity so you have mirrored edges on the sides and then simply erase the center of the top layer before you merge them into one.
I tried the clear sphere over the top of the planet but it was too overdone for my taste.
You forced me to learn something new though. I have never heard of an Oort cloud before so I was curious enough to google it and learn all about it. Thanks for the lesson, suggestions and inspiration. It will all come in handy in future.

like the cover image -- maybe a displacement filter on the text or a different blending mode -- text seems stuck on
