Though she was killed twice, both times by Namor (The Sub- Mariner), Marrina is one of my favorite superheros from the Canadian Super Team Alpha Flight.
She was force-ably hatched from a Plodex Egg by a sweet small town woman named Gladys Smallwood who imprinted her personality on the young Marrina.
The egg itself was over 40,000 years old, a left over from a failed invasion from the Plodex race, and had been trapped in a sea bed outside of Newfoundland Canada. During a storm, Smallwood's husband fell from a fishing vessel and noticed a bright light (the egg) on the sea bed and grabbed hold of it loosening it from the sea bed. Because it floated and saved his life he brought it home to his wife, who in turn released Marrina from the shell. The Plodex then absorbed the Human DNA, but due to the forced opening, Marrina assimilated human emotion instead of the world Conquering goal of the Plodex race. (Don't worry, that aspect of her history comes back with a vengeance.)
