Design A Member Avatar - Photoshop Contest [13 entries]

Contest goal:

Here on Pxleyes we use an avatar as our own personal symbol of identity. In this contest you can design an avatar for yourself or for another member. It can have significant meaning to the member or just an image you like and think would be a nice way for that member to be recognized.

It can be a static image or an animated gif.
Show your entry image at a good viewing size. Keep in mind that the final actual size of the avatar in use will be max resolution: 100x100pixels with a max file size: 25kb.

Don't state whose avatar you have designed! Just for fun members can guess whose it may be but don't acknowledge any guesses until the contest is finished!
After the contest your new avatar can be added by going to "PROFILE", then "my details". Since this is a contest the usual rules apply. No copyrighted images etc.

pingenvy: I'm working on an avatar. The smallest it will go is 33k @ 100x 100 pixels. suggestions? ( 5 years and 1299 days ago )

spaceranger: Save your psd to a jpeg 100x100 at 72dpi. Then save that as a gif by selecting "Save for Web & Devices..." from the Photoshop File menu. Be sure to select 256 colors in the gif save menu, That should work. If it's still too big reduce the number of colors. ( 5 years and 1298 days ago )

Sometimes the name is the key to an avatar. The description does say "Just for fun members can guess ..." and there are a couple in this contest that use the members name in the design and are obviously not anonymous even though the authors are. I wanted to use this members colors which are also his name so I knew it would be obvious anyway.

The colors green, red and blue used are secondary colors in CMYK printing (see SBS). (5 years and 1286 days ago)

Don't sell yourself short George you do excellent work. I've seen you grow and improve over the years and you just keep getting better! I had a good source to start with and that's often a matter of luck.

If you never tried animation I recommend checking out this tutorial:

It's very basic and easy to understand and even shows you how to "tween" your animations. It also has a download for the original PSD file so you can see exactly how it's done. It's a lot of fun too! Reminds me of school days when I'd draw cartoons on the page corners of my text books to make "flip book" style animations.
