Glockman: I think a better way to do this would be to have a old photo as a goal to restore by all to see which is best. no cheating that way.

wlado: Hmmmm, you are right you know...
Clinge: I don't even have an old damaged photo
(244 days ago)
wlado: flickr?

adeincyprus: I am trying to figure why the skill level for this one is so high..........it is not a complicated contest
(242 days ago)
wlado: It's not high. Level 5 is easily achieved. At least it was in my case, I got level 6 after one week here. Now I'm level 8. =)

annabat: weird contest as to what restoration is. It's when a photo is messed up usually from handling/fading and stains over time that gets corrected. Coloring a black a b/w photo and adding new elements (such as a new sky) isn't restoration...
adeincyprus: mmm, what I meant was.........I don't do photoshop chops usually, but I do photo repairs.........because I do not enter the chop contests, my level is such that I cannot enter a simple contest such as this. Why are there levels anyway?..........surely people will never learn if they are not allowed to participate in the 'higher' levels..........we don't have this in the photography section, and I think that is right........people only learn by trying!!!

chaplain: I have the perfect photo for this contest but I'm a few points shy of level 5. Do contests ever repeat?
wlado: I dunno. =/
adeincyprus: just the point I was making...........and, on top of that, there are some entries here which I would expect to be better from those who hold this rank!....
blaine2nd: Then it shouldn't take you to long to join the ranks.
adeincyprus: I don't do chops, I said that already, but I do photo repairs..........is why I don't understand the rating for this
(241 days ago)
blaine2nd: Then it shouldn't take you to long to join the ranks.

nasirkhan: IMO if we requested user to upload their damage/old images in new forum topic, and made this theme to all level, for restoring/coloring any one image from user uploaded old image, this would be much better. This is becuase I spend approx 30 minutes for serching usable old/damage photo.
nasirkhan: and this will also help user to restore their old vintage image, free of cost
(241 days ago)
blaine2nd: *oops repeated, not sure how that happened.
cabldawg71: this should have been an all levels contest for those that do not have TP in 2
(241 days ago)
jawshoewhah: Level 5 is not hard to accomplish. I haven't been here more than three months and I'm level 15.
adeincyprus: that depends if you want to do chops Jaws.....some of us don't, but this sort of contest falls under photography.....Ihave been doingit for 35 yrs, long before digital stuff came out....I used to do it in my darkroom the hard way!............it is not even 2d, it is a very old technique that has been around since the advent of photography..........is why it should be an open contest imo...

ReapRevenge: haha! I love it when people put "Before and After "
wlado: Just to remind the mods that there are some entries here that purposely don't follow the rules and/or use copyrighted images, which should've been expelled until now!
jawshoewhah: I think I'm going to base my vote on just how damaged the original image is to restore. That seems to be where the talent lies.
jawshoewhah: After I have looked at many of these entries, color duplication and just how well it looks as far as realizm is also going to play a big part in how I vote.
wlado: Well you shouldn't base your vote only on that. Replacing missing parts of a very clear sharp photo is much easier than making a blurry and scratchy photo clean and sharp. Plus, the colors matter too
(236 days ago)
adeincyprus: did you red flag these illegal entries then waldo.......or are you just shouting off about them!
wlado: Yes I did red flag them, and yes I'm shouting off. Why? Have a problem with that?
jawshoewhah: Well apparentlyh not too many people know how to remove all the scratches and get the color right so it seems like a good thing to base vote on.
blaine2nd: we should have a theme contest... Who can complain the best, or nick pick the rules.

That would be way popular.
wlado: Can't believe the results! O.O Not that I'm complaining about placement of my entry (tho I think it shuold be in top 7) but some entries which I expected also to be in top 7 scored much much lower than they deserve... Something's wrong here... o.O
