The meerkats on high resolution do look sharper. Something has caught their attention and that creates mystery for us as we wonder what it could possibly be. You do have some blow outs on the image and I'm wondering if you used A instead of Manual mode. If you are still shooting in A do switch as it will give you more creative power.
They are not meerkats but prairie dogs.
