Very moody. Nice effect.
I do think capturing the tops of the masts in the frame would have made this shot awesome (IMHO).
Good luck
Thanks for the thought and the comment, MyMindsEye. I would agree with you except for the fact that to capture the tops of the sailboat masts and the reflection would have required backing out quite a long way, which would have then lost a huge amount of detail in the scene. It was also not physically possible. To my eye, the fishing vessels are really the more beautiful subject and I did ensure that their masts and reflections are included. It was a ghostly night.
Create capture, what kind of exposure did you need.
It was still enough to capture at f8, ISO 250, for 30 seconds at 24mm focal length(dx). Some light improvements in post processing. Thanks for asking, friiskiwi.
Beautifull shot, even if I have to agree with MyMindsEye. Maybe the same short but vertical (with perhaps one boat less) would have permit to have entire boats with enough reflection. Don't you think ? (maybe I'm wrong)
Good question, Artifakts.
"You may be right
I may be crazy
But it just may be a lunatic your looking for
It's too late to fight
It's too late to change me
You may be wrong for all i know
But you may be right."

Nice shot. If only the boats have a few more lights on to give some texture and interest, or after the first calm shot to throw a small stone into the water on the left to see if a small ripple effect is better?
I really did want the undisturbed reflection and for me to have created a ripple would have disturbed both the water reflection and jostled my camera when I threw a small stone into the water without rocking the boat that I was on while trying to take a 30 second exposure. It is a particular challenge to take night shots of boats from other boats. Nice thought, though, and next time I will try it your way!!
