King Jr - Photography Contest [9 entries]

Winning entry, with a score of:
64.2%
Contest goal:

"A man who won't die for something is not fit to live." Martin Luther King, Jr. This is a truth. Interprete those words in a photograph. As this is a deep concept and based on principles, no animals shall be allowed. Good luck !

EDIT: Guidelines re-written to exclude animals as the original guidelines were too conflicting...animals do not (to the best of our current knowledge) have the advanced cognitive abilities to grasp concepts as truth, justice or individual principles...

drskn08: Does that mean something/someone should be in the photograph struggling for something? ( 5 years and 2785 days ago )
kyricom: ummm... I think the example of a fish struggling for his life etc. is kind of misinterpreting Dr. King's point. He was speaking about being willing to die for a principle, like individual rights, or justice... stuff like that. Animals don't have or fight for principles. ( 5 years and 2784 days ago )
MnMCarta: Animals fight for principle. Like protecting their family or like that video of a dog dragging another hurt dog off the interstate. Not easy to find but they do fight for principle. ( 5 years and 2784 days ago )
kyricom: No, sorry... you're anthropomorphizing. Animals do not have the cognitive ability to understand a principle, much less fight for one. You're referring to "instinct." ( 5 years and 2784 days ago )
UncleJimmy: kyricom...I agree with you here...animals can not/do not fight for 'principles', it's beyond their cognitive understanding... ( 5 years and 2784 days ago )
drskn08: Can contest moderator tell us what exactly this contest is asking and its rules ? One may mind if he posts a pic according to his own understanding and unfortunately the pic is disqualified.
Well it might be better to keep this contest for higher level while the contests like dragonflies here for all. ( 5 years and 2784 days ago )
UncleJimmy: The contest moderator may be as confused as everyone else on this theme since they probably didn't suggest the wording, so he/she is trying to make a determination also ( 5 years and 2784 days ago )
drskn08: ( 5 years and 2783 days ago )
locksmagic: As much as it chagrins me to say this I think I have to agree with kyricom ( 5 years and 2783 days ago )
Contest Moderator: I have FINALLY come to a ruling on this contest after conferring with several other Mods and members...The guidelines have been re-written to exclude animals for the reason that after taking more than 24hrs to reflect on the quote, I do not believe that animals have the advanced cognitive abilities to conceptualize "principles" and fully understand "self-sacrifice"...to allow animals acting instinctively would have been IMHO against the original meaning or intent of Dr. King's quote...I understand some of you may disagree to my decision, however, to keep the contest running smoothly and the removals/misjudgments to a minimum, a ruling had to be made. ( 5 years and 2783 days ago )
drskn08: rightly said Mod ! ( 5 years and 2783 days ago )
Nator: Funny thing is most animals are far more intelligent than their owners... ( 5 years and 2781 days ago )
kyricom: What happened to the soldier in the truck shot? It was one of the ones that was more on theme ( 5 years and 2775 days ago )

I know what I have here is just an object, but there is a meaning hiding in it,"The shoes follow her ambition, from the bottom to the sky, and if she can't fly, at least she'll die proud". I hope that you've got my idea ! (5 years and 2782 days ago)
