step 1 of 1

END OF TUTORIAL IS DETAILED HOW I ADDED COLOUR TO THIS IMAGE.

open desert -duplicate. , cut out rock , resize image to look like final image. position second copy of desert to underneath layer and expand image to see sky and just position to see rocks either side of the above cut out rock layer.

use patch or clone tool to remove bright sun, it distracts from the final image.

CREATEING SHAPES:

using a mid gray paint a bowl shape, layer blend normal, opacity 53% add FX gradient overlay , set layer setting to Overlay

paint a rim , add a little highlight and shadow.

new layer paint a lump shape at the bottom of bowl clip yellow tap to it, resize tap to give gravel look for base of bowl.

plants: paint plant shape , use warp tool to stretch and shape if needed.. invert tap colour.tap will turn blue. clip to plant shape..
duplicate and place in bowl.

creating fish.. using gray again paint a fish shape.. body, tail, fins .. each on separate layers. cut out water from tap . clip water bits to fish shape .. warp to give more shape to water .. continue until you have clipped and shaped every layer of the fish. all layers are set at normal and 100%

Put fish in a completed folder add a layer mask to the FOLDER. duplicate the folder with layer mask .. paint on layer mask to lighten the tail and fin areas . can paint on fish body a little too to make it translucent.

duplicate and move, make smaller etc depending on the amount and size of fish you want. You can duplicate fish .. merge all the layers add a layer mask and then translucent the fish as you like.. but I like to leave in a group as a whole because they you can move fins and tail as required.

drops of water created the same , paint in gray a drop shape, clip water to painted drop.
