A Work in Progress: Head Trauma

Started with a canvas size of 900 X 900. Using the gradient fill, mode set on difference, made several strokes across canvass. Then used the spherize distort filter.

Using the elliptical marquee tool I extracted the globe and added an outer glow layer effect blend mode set to lighten.

Opened a new image sized 18 X 26 inches. Made a fill of deep purple color. Took the original psychedelic image and free transformed it to fit the dimensions of the new image. There are two layers of the of this transformed image over the purple layer. The first layer's blend mode is luminosity and the second layer blend is set to difference, opacity and fill are lowered.

With the background eraser tool the skull was extracted. Holding the "CTRL" key and clicking on the extracted skull's layer thumbnail with the original psychedelic image layer highlighted, I made a copy of that psychedelic layer (forming a skull shaped image of the psychedelic layer.) This new layer was placed over the extracted skull and it's blend mode is multiply. A drop shadow effect of orange color was applied to the skull.
