All shading was done with adjustment layers (Brightness/Contrast, Levels and Exposure). The shadows were accomplished by making a copy of the thing I wanted to cast a shadow, going to Image ~ Adjustment ~ Levels and moving the bottom slider all the way over to the black side and then adding a little gaussian blur.
