Background swirls are made by liquify warping the umbrella/beach original source photo. This is used behind a gradient layer so that swirls show through when opacity of gradient layer is lowered.

Lighting is added using filter/render/omni light. Burn tool is used to create shadows in flowers, and colors of background adjusted using the hue/saturation tool.
