Used soft edged brush to write the word "LIGHT".

Reduced brush size, picked white and wrote inside the letters.

Converted the lettering into brush. Opened a new file with black background, then added layer and started filling the layer with my "light" brush.

Adjusted levels to increase light intensity.

Used Transform>Rotate
step 6 of 6
Added layer mask, selected the mask and used brush and eraser. First used textured brush to create specks, then used soft edge brush to create "DARK" word mask. Selected "LIGHT" brush again, lowered opacity, selected the main thumbnail and just randomly filled in more "light" brush to better define form on the DARK letters.
