Dog picture; I had to crop both pictures to fit them together, this one on top and bottom, the forest pic on the sides.

I used the DARKEN filter mode, which dropped out the blue of the chair in the dog picture. I also dropped the opacity down to about 85% on the top layer (results were the same for this pic no matter which photo was the top layer).
