I cut out and distorted a piece of the source image. I also used the pen tool to create sides for the square so that is looked more like a block.

I created the neverending staircase illusion using the block created in the previous step. This was a nightmare to figure out!

darkened the staircase and added a texture
step 4 of 8
duplicated the layer and flipped it horizontally . I also desaturated it.

I used a mask to take out parts of the image I no longer wanted.

I used the burn tool to create shadows.

Here I added a dark background for contrast.

I added the floor in this step.
