Here I drew the basic shape of the head.

I sketched in an idea of what I wanted the face to look like. I did this using a brush in photoshop.

I cut the face in half to keep it symmetrical and began using the burn and dodge tools to paint in some detail.

I go further ewith the burn and dodge tools, adding some shadows and highlights.

I duplicate the half of a face and flip it horizontally to create the other side of the face.

Here I used the burn and dode tools some more to create more shadows and highlights showing more detail.

In this step I cut out the portion of the source image I no longer wanted.

Here I used the burn and dodge tools to draw in a mouth.

In this step I began to draw the eyes.

I simply made the iris of the eye by redering clouds and setting my fore and background colors to dark green and light green. I then rendered difference clouds and hit CTRL + F until I got difference clouds that I was happy witth. I then burned the edges of the iris and drew in the pupil using a circular marquee and a fill of black.

In this step I duplicated the eye created in the previous step and flipped it horizontally and moved it to the left eye socket.
