step 1 of 6

I started off with a plane and tried to make the folds as I went along. This proved very difficult...

step 2 of 6

I then made a real paper origami frog and unfolded it to see exactly where the folds needed to be. I knifed them into my plane before starting the folding...

I then began folding, making sure that the polygons were slightly higher than the "paper" below to give the fold effect.

step 4 of 6

The final folded model needed some minor tweeks, which were made, I found quite a few issues when it came to 1 plane folding over itself, especially when I tried to add some thickness to the plane via and extrude method...

step 5 of 6

I then made three instances of the model and colored them in Red, Blue and Green... one upside down, one turned, I did this to show more of the construction of the model, in a natural way. Also setup the skylights and rendering preferences.

The final image - adjusted the contrast slightly in Photoshop - also setup the camera with a slight depth of field effect, to make it more interesting. I wanted it to appear like a pile of these origami frogs had been folded. Rendered at 4000 x 4000 - Full GI, Ambient Occ and Best AA. Render took about 4 hours! Hope you enjoy the image and I appreciate the votes. :)
