step 1 of 8

These are the parts I used and their purpose

Creation of Skunk Cat: Step 1

step 2 of 8

Primarily, I used warp and smudge and liquified the tail

Creation of Skunk Cat: Step 2

step 3 of 8

I masked the hair off of the legs, then layered and merged to create a stick. Wave filter to shape and free transform to make it bigger

Creation of Skunk Cat: Step 3

step 4 of 8

First, strong smudge to pull out the spikes. Then a light opacity paint over it. Dodge and burn for shading

Creation of Skunk Cat: Step 4

step 5 of 8

Layers and gaussian blur

Creation of Skunk Cat: Step 5

step 6 of 8

Brightness/contrast and layers

Creation of Skunk Cat: Step 6

step 7 of 8

Burn and increased contrast for shading

Creation of Skunk Cat: Step 7

step 8 of 8

Light opacity black over everything, then soft brush eraser. Other shadows created with soft brush and gaussian blur.

Bonus! For those who have looked at this SBS, a puzzle. I've also created bugs. There are 9 bugs scattered around the image. Some are in plain view, but most are trying to hide. Can you find them? ;-)
