First i took the contest image and removed the plane and smoke from the photo using Photoshop.
step 2 of 4
I then chose a photo of myself and applied the plane...flipping it to meet the same light source. I smudged the smoke and realized that i could wrap it around my head.

I copied and pasted sections of the smoke trail to the photo to get the desired look.
step 4 of 4
After getting the smoke completed...I used an additional program called Photomatix and produced the HDR image that I submitted.
