Lighting. There are 4 lights in this scene. 1 spot lights on the mat, a ambient omni light which is part of the hallway and a light box i made myself which shines a line of light. The line is representative of the sun.

The base of the mat is a plane 240x400 with 48x80 segments, the text was drawn with a text spline and extruded and then booleaned from the plane.

Added a black hair to the wording and decoration and a brown hair to the mat itself. The mat had 140,000 hairs and the writing had 35,000 hairs. The hair material was edited to change the frizz, clump, thickness, this is all about experimentation to get it right.

I was surprised as to how much of a difference it made when I added a surround do the mat. This was just a rectangle which had slightly curved edges and a sweep rectangle on this.

This is the final scene which encompasses the lighting, camera placement and the composition. The final render was made with Ambient occlusion, global illumination, AA at 4x.

Once again, credit to Mayang and the excellent selection of textures used in this piece.
