I forgot to take snapshots as I was making the kaleidoscope, so I redid the first steps for this guide. For the rest I used "History".
So, I started by cropping the original picture.

I rotated, flipped and cropped the image.

I followed the steps from the first tutorial given in the contest description and came up with this result.

I duplicated, scaled down, rotated and changed the blending mode for each new layer.

I merged all the layers and then duplicated to fill the canvas.

Finally, I changed the hue/saturation to make the colors stand out a bit more!
