Erased the background and put in another. Adding in the base for some leaves.

In this step additional leaves and detail is added.

Here I began the detailing in the snake by using a square brush to create the "scales" in different sizes and coloring to mimic a rattlesnake.

More detailing and the apple are added in this step.
