step 3 of 8

Grunge texture (which looked like trees to me) applied to base. Main tree "erased" from the texture, and used as a template to erase other trees using a layer mask.

Baby dragon placed and color, levels, brightness adjusted. High Pass layer dimmed the still-too-bright spots.

step 6 of 8

Adapted from memory a tutorial I found some time ago to make textured dragon or reptile scales. Tutorial link is included. I used stained glass, drop shadow, inner shadow, bevel & emboss, then craquelure effects.

step 7 of 8

Fit scales layers, using dragon body as a trim guide.

step 8 of 8

Two Exposure layers vary shadows and brightness. Solid orange layer placed over all elements, then selectively erased on dragon with soft round brush. Pixie dust glitter applied. Exposure layers dotted to allow sparkles to cast light.
