four elements

step 1 of 6

Basic modeling for the boat. Extruding and moving points

Creation of Fighting the elements: Step 1

step 2 of 6

the textured version. Al materials are from Maya and i used diferent ramps and noise shaders to achive bumps and color variations

Creation of Fighting the elements: Step 2

step 3 of 6

I've setup an ocean plane, in wich u can simulate wave movement. Also u can change parameters like wave height, speed, density, etc. For a better result u can add foam on the maya ocean shader. Unfortunatetly due to many crashes and lack o patience.. it wasn't my best ocean simulation. with a bit of patience and tenacity u can get a preety good result.

step 4 of 6

Aded a boat locator to make the boat float and simulate the real thing. U can see the locator in the Outliner ( left window.. the green thingie.. coresponding the green cross in the middle of the boat. moving that u can change the float line of the boat )

step 5 of 6

After this i've aded an ocean wake emiter on the front of the ship to simulate the ships movement forward and emit foam as it breaks trough waves.

If you have a good machine u can simulate boats and oceans and render the frames, thus giving you the ability of getting a cool storm movie with minimum effort. Also u can emit particles from the surface of the ocean and script them in the way that when they reach a certain height they will emit white particles (splashes), also, by this metod u can simulate water breaking on cliffs.

PS: Aded rain in photoshop. My System was allready screaming when i rendered the scene, so this was an easy fix
